Deck Building in Denver, NC: What Local Homes Need
Denver is an unincorporated community in eastern Lincoln County on the west side of Lake Norman, about 25 miles north of uptown Charlotte and 15 miles southeast of Newton. The census-designated place grew 16.8% between 2010 and 2020, to 2,697 people, and the area has become largely a bedroom community for Charlotte since Duke Power's Cowans Ford Dam flooded the surrounding farmland in the early 1960s.
Locals still call the original route through town 'Old 16,' with 'New 16' bypassing it to the southwest, and NC-150 meets NC-16 at the northwest corner of the community. Rescue Squad Park hosts a Saturday farmers' market in warmer months, and the Little Egypt area near East Lincoln High School is another local landmark.
The 2020 census counted 1,206 housing units and 1,137 households in the Denver CDP, with only 5.7% of units vacant. Denver was an incorporated town from 1877 until 1971 and remains unincorporated today, about 25 miles from uptown Charlotte and 15 miles from Newton.
That history means lakeside homes, newer subdivisions off NC-16 and older farmhouses can all sit within a few miles of each other.
